There are a wide variety of hikes along the beach or on the cliffs above, plus kayacking and boating in the estuary. The Charleston Harbor Inn

A great place to be that is far from 101. This Inn is something unusual because the prices are lower then motels on the main highway but it’s much nicer. Rooms are clean and roomy. Free WiFi and TV, and it’s a stone’s throw from the Betty Kay docks.

Chuck’s Sea Food

The Best Seafood Market in this area is just around the corner from Betty Kay. They have the best fresh and canned oysters, fish, clams, crab, and unusual seasonings to intrest any gourmet chef.

The Best Restaurants

Got Kayaks? The High Tide Cafe is aptly named because at high tide you can float your kayak or small boat right up to the patio.

Other Great Charleston Restaurants include: Portside, Miller’s at the Cove, Bayside Coffee, Charleston Crab Shack, Nonnie’s Breakfast Barn, BJ’s Ice Cream, Fisherman’s Grotto, Cantrell’s Bakery, and the Sea Basket.

Charleston Harbor

The Coos Bay / Charleston Harbor Complex is modern, well appointed, and ready for setting sail, docking, clamming, or heading out on a fishing trip!

New Marine Life Center

The Charleston Marine Life Center is a public museum and aquarium at the edge of the Charleston boat basin. It attracts young visitors into the heart of the town and provides a rich educational resource to local and visiting teachers and families. The University of Oregon produces education and entertaining displays of the Cape Arago oceanography as well as beautiful live displays of life from the ocean off shore and in the estuary within. It is the University of Oregon’s most visible public interface on the Oregon Coast and very fun for all ages. You can even watch the commercial fishing boats come in and unload their catch from the fish factory which is right next to the Life Center.

The Charleston Oregon Merchants Association

The Merchant’s Association developed because Charleston is home to some of the finest recreation and most beautiful scenery in the Northwest. The harbor is the heart of this community. We help make Charleston a well knitted community. There’s a lot going on at the marina with all the boats, fishermen, crabbers and visitor center activities. From restaurants to specialty gift shops we can fill any appetite. Come visit us. We are always looking for ways to make your stay enjoyable and fun.

A Look Inside the world

Camping and RV’s

Beautiful uncrowded beaches like the Mighty Bastendorff are pretty common around Charleston. Check out the web for additional sites and possibilities. We happen to be partial to the Bastendorff but there’s Sunset Beach and more!

Shore Acres State Park was once the grand estate of pioneer timber baron Louis Simpson. Many of the original buildings are still in use. Today it features llushly planted gardens with flora from all over the world. Something is in bloom almost every day. Special events like the Christmas Lights (all December long) displays are amazing.
